The U.S. canoe team of Ian and Gavin Ross finished in fourth place behind Cuba, Canada and Mexico in Thursday's senior two-man canoe (C2) 1,000-meter final at the Pan American Championships held at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville.
The Wednesday Dogfights played stableford scoring this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. The individual points winner in the A Flight was Ron Melin at +7 points. Joe Roberts was second with +6 and Jerry Horton with +5. In the B Flight, Henry Komoto won with +11 points. Second was Roy Smith with +10 and Steven Noah finished third with +7 points.
When Gainesville native Nikiha Miller slipped a prosthesis on his right leg and prepared to go through his regular walking exercises, he felt spurred on by a motto that he uses to fuel his drive for kayaking.
The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a best ball team, low net, event on Tuesday. The first place team was Martha Shell, Linda Keller and Ruth Viola. In second place, it was Joanne Rabdau, Beulah Land and Sally Woo. Third place was Ann Hollobaugh, Pam Jackson and Kirsten Coleman, and the team of Mona White, Sherry Dubose, Jackie Somerville and Bebe Blount finished fourth.
The Chattahoochee Men's Golf Association played a three-best-ball points game this week. In first place was the team of Steve Hollis, Dennis Pope, Jim Van Dyke and Chuck Keith. Second place went to the team of Paul Payne, Bob Pyne, Bob Allen and Bob Watson. Third place went to the team of Roy Bartlett, Denny Momper, Harry Barnett and Bill Adams.
