Local golf: Hollobaugh wins contest at Chattahoochee
Ann Hollobaugh took first place Tuesday as the Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a Par-3/Par-5 contest at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Carolyn Palmer and Ann White tied for second, with Sue Cronmiller placing fourth. Closest to the pin winners were White on No. 3 and Palmer on No. 17.
Local golf: Shell, Knowles tie for 1st at Chicopee Woods
Martha Shell and Steven Knowles tied at +6 to take first place as the DPG played the first of three matches this week at the Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Horace Smallwood (+5) was second, while Jerry Pearson and Dave Jetter tied for third at +4.
Dooley to headline Dahlonega United Way event
Former University of Georgia football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley will headline a reception and silent auction to benefit the United Way of Lumpkin County from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Achasta Clubhouse on Birch River Drive in Dahlonega.

North Hall graduate and member of the Georgia IronDawgs powerlifting team Jacob Townsend took first place in the 181-pound Junior Men's division of the Southern Powerlifting Federation's Georgia State Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship on Sunday.
