This Week: Petit Le Mans ready to run at Road Atlanta on Saturday

Some of the best sports car team in North America and Europe will be part of the Petit Le Mans endurance race at on Saturday at Road Atlanta in Braselton. The 15th annual running of one of the American Le Mans Series' biggest events meshes endurance and speed as drivers participate in the 1,000 mile/10-hour race in the P1, P2 and GT classifications at the track in South Hall.

Local Golf: Luna's group plays at Chateau Elan

Tommy Lowery, Phil Rothermel, Doug Van and Joe Roberts finished in first place at the Luna's Tuesday event last week at Chateau Elan. Tommy Aaron, Johnny Nix, Cleve Brown and Randy Gordy and Blake Nix, Gene Weschler, Royce Deaton and Don Rogers tied for second. Closest to the pin winners were Blake Nix (No. 6), Johnny Nix (No. 8), Deaton (No. 12), and Larry Miller (No. 16).

Local golf: Foote wins Senior Championship at Chicopee

Jim Foote won the Senior Championship at Chicopee Woods Golf Course in Gainesville with a 36-hole score of 142. Foote put together rounds of 70 and 72 to win by three strokes over Keith Morris and Walter Hope.

Local golf: CMGA plays scramble at Chattahoochee

The Chattahoochee Men's Golf Association played its quarterly scramble last week at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. First place went to the team of Louis Boohaker, Bud Clegg, Carlyle Cox and Gene Weschler. Wayne Nelson, Nick Grillo, Stu Virgin and Tom Cleveland came in second, and Claude Schneider, Don Sorrell, Bob Henderson and Dick Bachman were third. Closest to the pin winners were Clegg (No. 3), Denny Momper (No. 5), Weschler (No. 12) and Ben Brooks (No. 17).

Winters sisters winning in East Hall programs

Sisters Carly Winters (7th grade) and Natalie Winters (11th grade) pitched in different places at the same time on Tuesday for the East Hall Junior Vikings and the East Hall Lady Vikings, respectively. Both sisters won their games with the Junior Vikings playing Gainesville and defeating them in 18-8 in three innings.
