Blair and Power team to win Royal Lakes tourney

Steve Blair and Danny Power won the Royal Lakes 2012 Member-Member tournament Sunday, besting a field of 40 two-man teams competing in five flights. The winners of each flight advanced to a shootout, where Blair and Power outlasted Andy Todd and Tony Weyenberg.

Local golf: Smith, Dingess lead Flight 1 at Royal Lakes

In the opening round of the Member-Member golf tournament at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club in Flowery Branch, the team of Greg Smith and Dannie Dingess led the way in the first flight, followed by the teams of Grant Cagle/Steve Garner and Jared Cagle/Randy Bailey in second and David Wilder/Greg Hurley and Michael Stephens/David Tewksbury in third.

Tiger Baseball attracting the best

Skyler Weber was eager to jump on board with what the Tiger Baseball program had to offer. Weber, a rising senior catcher at Gainesville High, knew the long-term benefits that could come from playing under the direction of Tigers program director Shane Monahan, a former All-American at Clemson University and major league outfielder with the Seattle Mariners.

Local paddlers win medals in Germany

Last weekend, the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club sprint team raced at the Sprint Sachsen, Anhalt Offen and Magdeburg Regatta in Magdeburg, Germany. LCKC athletes won 16 medals overall, including two golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes.

Local golf: Dale wins at Chattahoochee

The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Monday at Chattahoochee Golf Course, and Wednesday and Friday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Terrence Dale finished in first place on Monday, followed by Martha Shell in second and Horace Smallwood in third. Doug Padgett finished in first place on Wednesday, Charley Kilby came in second, and Al Crego got third. Jerry Shell finished in first place on Friday, Norm Phillips came in second, and Terrence Dale and Steve Knowles tied for third.
