Hulsey wins fifth City Championship at Chattahoochee

Sam Hulsey claimed his fifth City Golf Championship with a 36-hole total of 140 on Sunday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville. Hulsey fired a 70 each round for a 4-under par for the tournament.

City Championship golf tourney starts Friday

The 2012 City Championship will be held Friday through Sunday at Chattahoochee Golf Club. The cost is $50 per player in addition to applicable green fees and cart fees. The tournament is open to any golfer with an established USGA handicap and will be flighted based on handicap indexes.

The Northeast Georgia Championships Tennis Tournament will be held Aug. 14-19 at Longwood Tennis Center in Gainesville. Play will begin at 6 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Ty McCormack has set the bar high for himself in the Peachtree Road Race, even though it's not a race he trains for specifically. McCormack, a North Hall High grad, was the top finisher out of about 35,000 runners from Georgia in the 2011 Fourth of July race and the largest 10 kilometer race in the nation.

Local golf: Luna's group plays Chestatee

The Luna's Tuesday golf group played at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville this week. First place went to the team of Randy Gordy, Richard Strickland, Tommy Lowery, and Chad Pierce. Royce Deaton, Jerry Johns, Stan Davidson Jr, and Jim Cornett came in second place, and Gene Weschler, Ken Chahoy, Tom Sexton, and Doug Van finished in third place. Closest to the pin winners were Bud Black (No. 3), Deaton (No. 7), Larry Miller (No. 11), Gordy (No. 15), and Sexton (No. 17).
