Sunday marked the close of the 2016 Pan American Games at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Over four days, competitors from all over North, Central and South America gathered at the venue to compete for a spot in the upcoming Rio Olympics, and by all accounts, the event was quite successful.

Lake Lanier athletes were in several Pan American Championships finals on Saturday, but it wasn't until the mid-afternoon senior men four-man kayak (K4) 1,000 meter race that local paddlers stood proudly on the awards podium as the American flag was raised behind them.

The U.S. canoe team of Ian and Gavin Ross finished in fourth place behind Cuba, Canada and Mexico in Thursday's senior two-man canoe (C2) 1,000-meter final at the Pan American Championships held at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville.
