As one of Halloween's most iconic candies, candy corn seemed worthy of a makeover. After all, we've seen the candy mixed into cookie dough, sprinkled over ice cream, worked into brownies and blondies, even used to infuse vodka for a very adult sort of sticky tricky treat.

You'll need a brick wrapped in aluminum foil or a metal grill press for this recipe. Serve with roasted potatoes and wilted spinach. The delicate, smoky flavors imparted to the chicken are a perfect foil for a crisp, citrusy, 2009 Ehler's Estate Sauvignon Blanc ($28).

This hearty soup from Ross Dobson's "Wholesome Kitchen" is easily made vegetarian. Dobson suggests simply replacing the chorizo with 2 cups of sliced mushrooms and cooking as directed. You also can stir in some baby spinach at the end.
