Dogs with curly tails, cute smiles get awards at annual Stray Dog Strut

More than 150 pooches strutted their stuff Sunday afternoon for The Humane Society of Hall County's 17th annual Stray Dog Strut.

Held at Lake Lanier Islands, the event benefited abandoned or needy animals and included a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run for dogs and owners.

Northeast Georgia History Center wraps up annual estate sale

The Northeast Georgia History Center held its third annual Antiques Show and Estate Sale on Saturday, giving local folks a chance to invest in antiques or find out if they already owned a treasure.

The antique show featured tables of local and out-of-state antique dealers specializing in a variety of items. Many other items donated to the history center for the sale ranged from sets of wine glasses to a Chinese wall hanging donated by former Sen. Zell Miller.

Service means a great deal

It was a great day for Hall County on Saturday when the First United Methodist Church held its second annual Great Day of Service.

Lynda Askew and Letrell Simpson, who served as co-chairwomen for the event, planned more than 40 community projects for 843 volunteers. Askew said that the day was a tremendous success.
