Visitors cool off on opening day of Splash Zone at Meadows Center

POSTED: May 25, 2014 12:19 a.m.

School is out, and kids were ready for their summer fun to start Saturday.

Many of them, along with their families, enjoyed their first day of summer break at Frances Meadows Aquatic Center.

The center was packed as its Splash Zone outdoor water park opened for the first time this season. The zone includes several pools, water slides and beach chairs for people wanting to bask in sunshine.

“It was busy all day,” said Meghan Hill, division manager of the center. “We’ve had kids of all ages come to the Splash Zone for the first time (today). Some returned from previous years, too.”

Hill said visitors from Banks, Habersham and White County paid a visit on opening day.

“It is a fun time of the year because all of the pools are open and the kids are out of school,” she said.

Hill said the center is expecting a busy summer and they want everyone to “have fun for the summer.”

Ali Cofield and her son, Kyson Nesbitt, 4, along with Matthew Thomas and his daughter, Jordynn Faulkner, 4, traveled from Banks County to have fun in the sun.

“It is Memorial Day weekend, so, we decided to bring the children out swimming and find something fun for them to do,” Cofield said.

Thomas and Faulkner were visiting the center for the first time.

“I love this. Matthew enjoys playing with the children and to see the children have fun is all that matters,” Cofield said. “To see the children laughing is the best part of being here.”

Kyson said his favorite part of the park is the water guns in the pools, while Jordynn said she just enjoyed diving into the pool to swim.

Jessika Krause brought her son, Tommy Krause, 2, to the Splash Zone for the first time. She helped him swim in the pool and run through sprinklers that shot up in the shallowest part of the pool, spraying anyone within several feet.

“This is nice because it is local and it has a really good kid area that he can play in,” she said. “This place has really good prices, too. This is a really great place. It is a family-friendly environment.

“It’s really close and convenient. For kids, this place has a lot they can do.”
