Live music, auctions to benefit cancer survivor

POSTED: May 22, 2014 1:00 a.m.

For years, midwife Ann Addison was trusted to bring thousands of new lives into the world in Hall County. Following a stage 3 pancreatic cancer diagnosis last year, the registered nurse and her family is seeking help to pay for her medical care.

This Saturday, her family is throwing a benefit auction in her honor at the Blairsville Civic Center.

The auction is going to help with the medical bills that have become increasingly overwhelming since her diagnosis. The family also wants to educate people about pancreatic cancer and its effects.

“The main thing is, we just want to make others more aware of the cancer and the financial stress it can cause,” said Darrell Addison, Ann’s husband. “We were very lucky to have insurance to help cover the costs.”

Doors to the benefit will open at 4 p.m. and the auction will start at 6 p.m. Barbecue plates can be purchased for $6 and includes a sandwich, chips and a drink. A single sandwich costs $4.50.

Live music will kick off the benefit at 4 p.m. and an auction featuring more than 100 items begins at 6 p.m.

“We’ve had a growing list of items,” said Kelly Addison, Ann’s son. “We are now up to over 140 items since the list of donations was produced.”

Raffle tickets may be purchased for $1 each or five for $6. A separate raffle will be held for two special items — an air rifle and a flashlight/taser — for $4 a ticket.

Monetary donations will be accepted to Regions bank in the name of the Ann Addsion Benefit account.

The family is excited to have the chance to educate the community about pancreatic cancer and celebrate Ann’s improvement. She has been cancer free for seven months.

“We are excited to bring people together to celebrate the fact that Ann is a survivor now,” Darrell said.
