Quinlan awards young artists with scholarships

Quinlan Visual Arts Center recently recognized the winners of the 11th annual Youth Art Month Exhibition.

Each year, the Kiwanis Club of Gainesville sponsors the event, which showcases works from Gainesville and Hall County elementary, middle and high school students. Winners receive scholarship awards from the Charles J. Thurmond Youth Art Scholarship fund. The award announcements were made at a reception March 14 at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. The results were:

Sixth grade

* First: Charlise London, “Uncle Sam Wants You!” mixed media, Da Vinci Academy.

* Second: Andrea Farmer, “My Country Tis’ of Thee,” mixed media, Da Vinci Academy.

* Third: Emma Kate Park, “The Marsh,” colored pencil, Lakeview Academy.

* Honorable Mention: Ashley Beltran, “Little Hoot,” mixed media, Da Vinci Academy.

Seventh grade

* First: Jack Kennedy, “Masked Rage,” silk dye, Lakeview Academy.

* Second: Grant Russell, “Will You?” papermache sculpture, Da Vinci Academy.

* Third: Abbe Piccolo, “My Interests,” paper collage, Lakeview Academy.

* Honorable Mention: Brooks Hylton, “My Oil Pastel,” oil pastel, Lakeview Academy.

Eighth grade

* First: Erika Plummer, “The Bud of the Bud,” colored pencil, Da Vinci Academy.

* Second: Aylin Contreras, “Trees,” watercolor, Da Vinci Academy.
