Gateway development coming along under budget

POSTED: May 9, 2014 11:12 p.m.

Development of the Gateway Industrial Centre is coming in under budget, and phase II of construction is likely to be completed by early July.

That’s the news Hall County Public Works Director Ken Rearden delivered to local government and business leaders Friday at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce in Gainesville.

The update on the progress of the Gateway Industrial Centre in northeast Hall, a 518-acre business park that officials hope will be the catalyst for additional residential and commercial growth along the Ga. 365 corridor, comes just as the chamber undertakes a marketing campaign to entice businesses to the park.

For example, about $15,000 has been earmarked for signage at the park, direct advertising and for the production of a printable park brochure.

Tim Evans, the chamber’s vice president of economic development, said several businesses have recently submitted proposals to open up shop in the center.

Construction on the center’s first tenant, the Georgia Poultry Lab, should be complete soon, and a soft opening is scheduled for late summer.

Phase I of the park’s construction, which included grading and roadbed work, was completed at a cost of about $1.59 million, more than $200,000 under budget.

Phase II includes finishing roadwork, and water main and storm system development from White Sulphur Road to Abit Massey Way. A completion date has been pushed back to early July as a result of rain delays.

Thus far, costs for this phase have totaled less than half of the $5.1 million budget.

The center is seen as the anchor to attract new mixed-use developments, including Cane Creek, Hagan Creek and Gateway Village, to the area.

Hall County has committed to building sewer infrastructure in the area to support these developments.

Rearden said the infrastructure will be able to handle up to 750,000 gallons of wastewater per day by March 2015.
