One night to see ‘The Ocean’

2 artists show off abstract and surfboard works

POSTED: May 8, 2014 1:00 a.m.

Gainesville artists Chad Shore and Curt Couch have teamed up to present their show “The Ocean,” one night only at Gallery 9 at 2481 Hilton Drive, Suite 9, in Gainesville. The show opens at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Shore said the idea for the show “self-presented.”

“I’ve always collected surfboards and water sport accessories. A lot of my abstract paintings mimic ocean views and aquatic life, hence this show being called ‘The Ocean,’” Shore said.

The work ranges from abstract paintings to mixed media.

“A wide range of mediums were used on this series, from surfboards to stains and resins, acrylics and oils … lots of great stuff,” Shore said.

Couch, a local business owner for 25 years, finally figured out “what he wants to do when he grows up.” “He’s always had the passion the art through sculpture — glass, ceramics, pottery and mixed media. His work complements my work and I’m very excited to show with such a talented artist.”

Shore said they’ve been working on this show a little over four months.

“It takes a lot of work to have a show — planning, ideas, and execution — but it is always worth it,” he said

Providing music for the opening will be Nate Currin, a local artist, storyteller and folk musician who has toured with Blues Traveler, Neon Trees and Jars of Clay.

The show is a one-night event. Everyone is invited to come out and bring family and friends.
