High school scoreboard: May 7

Flowery Branch opened the second round of the Class AAAAA state baseball playoffs with a 6-3 win against North Paulding and lost 7-5 in Game 2 during Wednesday’s doubleheader in the best-of-three series in Dallas.

In Game 1, Jonathan Hughes pitched the complete game and struck out nine to earn the win. Justin Seabolt paced the Falcons at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, Stephen Skeggs went 2 for 3, and Trey Groves was 2 for 4 with a home run. Deuce Davidson was 1 for 4 with three RBIs for Flowery Branch.

Seabolt continued to lead in Game 2, going 3 for 4 again at the plate, and Dylan Gibeau was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Andrew Nolt finished the game 2 for 4. Gibeau pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Falcons with nine strikeouts in the loss.

Flowery Branch faces North Paulding in a decisive Game 3 at 6 p.m. tonight in Dallas.

NORTH HALL BOYS 4, NORTH OCONEE 3: Jairo Barrientos scored the go-ahead goal for the Trojans (13-4-1) with six minutes left in the second-round playoff match in Bogart on Tuesday, securing a spot in the Class AAA state quarterfinals this weekend. With the win, North Hall advances to face Islands High on Saturday in Savannah.

Tied 3-3 late in the second half, North Hall put it in the back of the net after a corner kick from Enrique Castrejon. Castrejon scored a goal late in the first half for the Trojans to go up 3-1.

North Hall scored first on the night with a shot from Jake Stephens. After the Titans knotted the match 1-1, Hunter Carter made a shot to put North Hall ahead 2-1.

Golf

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS ADVANCE TO STATE: Morgan Rylee shot an 84 to lead the Lady Leopards to a third-place finish in the Class AAA state sectionals on Monday at Springhill Country Club in Tifton.

Jody Milford carded a 98 for Banks County, which shot a team total of 290.

The Lady Leopards will compete in the Class AAA state tournament on May 19 at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro.
