POSTED: May 6, 2014 12:08 a.m.

The Gainesville Public Utilities Department will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Riverside Water Treatment Plant in celebration of National Drinking Water Week.

Tours of the plant will be offered, along with information on the amount of water that runs through the plant and how it’s treated.

The American Water Works Association has been celebrating Water Week for 36 years, calling attention to the role water plays in our everyday lives.

The Riverside Water Treatment plant treats an average of 12 million gallons of water per day. The city of Gainesville serves more than 50,000 water accounts in Gainesville and Hall County.

For more information, contact Bill Wilson, plant manager, at bwilson@gainesville.org or 770-718-2170; or Denise Mobley, assistant plant manager, at 770-718-2168 or dmobley@gainesville.org.
