While more than 20,000 voters in Hall and surrounding counties have taken advantage of Georgia’s early voting period, there’s still time for more people to jump on the bandwagon.

Most Georgia counties began the early voting process Sept. 22, but some counties — including Hall, Forsyth and Habersham — began early voting Sept. 19.

Since early voting began, Hall County has recorded the highest number of early ballots out of all other nearby counties.

"So far we’ve had more than 7,000 early voters, and more people keep coming in," said Charlotte Sosebee-Hunter, interim director of the Hall County Elections and Voter Registration Office.

Nearby Forsyth County comes in second with nearly 5,000 early voters, and Lumpkin County is third with slightly more than 2,000 recorded early voters.

Oct. 6 marked the last day that Georgia residents could register in order to participate in the Nov. 4 election.

Prior to the cutoff, election officials say they noticed an increase in voter registration.

"We were slammed on Monday (Oct. 6). We had a lot of people coming in just to register," said Glenda Ferguson, the election supervisor for Dawson County.

Early voting will continue through Oct. 31, although during the week of Oct. 27 the process is labeled as "advanced voting."

Voters must present a photo ID before being permitted to cast a ballot.
