The Local Agenda: Gainesville to unveil proposed budget on Thursday

POSTED: April 28, 2014 11:54 p.m.

Gainesville City Council will get its first look at the proposed 2015 fiscal year budget when it meets Thursday for a work session.

City Manager Kip Padgett will deliver his recommended budget, including revenue expectations and funding priorities. He has asked all departments to keep their budget requests on par with current funding. The current year’s budget is about $29 million.

Padgett told The Times on Monday that capital project needs are emphasized in the 2015 budget, with funding priorities to include stormwater infrastructure upgrades and street paving.

In March, department directors presented their funding priorities and goals for the coming fiscal year. Padgett said most departments kept their budget requests flat, though some divisions will see funding increases while others will get minor cuts.

In other business, the council will review several project resolutions, including a drainage project for the Memorial Drive and Virginia Circle intersection, and improvements to a pump station on White Sulphur Road.

The Gainesville City Council work session will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in room 301 of the administration building, 300 Henry Ward Way, Gainesville.
