Stockton retires as publisher of The Times

POSTED: April 25, 2014 11:52 p.m.

Dennis Stockton, publisher of The Times and gainesvilletimes.com since 2004, has announced his retirement from the position.

A veteran of more than 30 years in the newspaper business, Stockton served as group publisher for The Times and five other affiliated newspapers owned by Morris Multimedia Inc. and Swartz-Morris Media Inc., as well as for HOME magazine.

“This has been a great position for me but it is time for me to see what is next in my life. Had it not been for the economic downturn I would have retired a few years ago. I will certainly miss working at The Times and the exceptional employees there, but look forward to new challenges,” Stockton said.

Prior to joining The Times, he served as publisher of the Forsyth County News in Cumming.

The Times is owned by Morris Multimedia, based in Savannah. Stockton is the only person to serve as publisher of the newspaper under its current ownership.

“Dennis did a great job of making The Times an excellent community newspaper after our company acquired it in 2004. We wish him nothing but the best in the future, and he will be missed,” said Charles Hill Morris, regional publisher for the newspaper group.

Stockton’s resignation was effective Friday. General manager Norman Baggs will assume responsibility for day-to-day operations of the newspaper until a new publisher is named.
