Jonathan Lee Casas had a “stroke of genius” as he walked to class a few weeks ago.

“I don’t know what was going through my head, but I thought of dental hygiene and ‘Ice Ice Baby,’” Casas said. “That night I was studying for psychology and all the lyrics came to me. So I wrote them down.”

The 20-year-old University of North Georgia biology student said he couldn’t get the song out of his head. He often found himself rapping in his car on his way to class.

The next week Casas decided to share his dentist-approved version of the hit 1990s hip-hop song by rapper Vanilla Ice. His friend Josh Pendley recorded the rap on his cellphone and uploaded the video to YouTube, a video-sharing website.

The video shows Casas whispering the lyrics to the song while his friend Stewart Jeter appears to be holding back laughter.

As of Friday afternoon, the video had been viewed more than 15,000 times, shared on The Huffington Post’s website and the American Dental Association’s New Dentist blog.

The video has seemingly been a hit with the dental crowd.

“Nine out of 10 dentists agree, this is the best rap ever,” commented Southfield Family Dental Center in Michigan, on the website.

Other commentors shared their enthusiasm for the song with “A rap you can get your teeth into” and “Thanks for making hygiene cool.”

Casas said he didn’t expect the video to “spread like wild fire.”

“I did not really expect the video to get that popular,” Casas said. “It’s been pretty fun. I was just rapping about dental hygiene. I didn’t expect it to go anywhere.”
