Run over obstacles in annual Muddy Duck Dash

POSTED: April 24, 2014 1:00 a.m.

Over, under, around and through is the name of the game for the 2014 Muddy Duck Dash on Saturday at the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus.

The 3.5-mile obstacle-style course will have hay bail climbs, six walls, shallow pond crossing, low wire, live wire, two creek runs, mud pit, rope webs, barricades, Simon Sez, a brain quiz and a 100-foot slip-and-slide.

All racers also will be provided a rubber duck as part of the race packet that must be with them at all times during the run. Your duck must complete the course with you. It cannot be thrown, kicked, punted or heaved.

Children may register for the race if parents feel they are capable, but shorter courses are available to encourage youth fitness and family activity.

For those not running, a duck-decorating contest is available.

Sponsored by Safelite Autoglass and benefiting the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation, the 2014 Muddy Duck Dash will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at 3820 Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood, rain or shine.

Registration is $50 until Friday and $60 on race day. UNG student registration is $35.

Kids races are $20 for the 1 mile Duck Dash and half-mile Little Duck Dash.

To register by Friday, participants must make their payment paid in person to professor Warren Caputo in the PE building or during packet pickup from noon to 7 p.m. Friday in the PE building.

Race-day registration is 6:30-7:50 a.m. Saturday.
