Hall school board moves forward on bonus pay plan

POSTED: April 14, 2014 11:27 p.m.

A draft plan featuring educator bonuses as part of the federal Race to the Top program was approved Monday night by the Hall County Board of Education.

The plan, which now goes to the Department of Education for approval, calls for $717,500 in one-time bonuses to be divided among teachers, principals and assistant principals who are top performers on teacher and leader measurements.

The teachers would be paid $2,500 and administrators, $2,300.

The money was set aside from a $4.2 million grant the school system got from the program, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or federal stimulus money.

“This is the one-time bonus that was required by law to participate in Race to the Top,” Superintendent Will Schofield told the board.

“The bonuses will be made on student achievement data collected this year,” said Eloise Barron, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. “Then, the bonuses will actually be paid out at the end of next year.”
