Local Golf: Hope records first-ever hole-in-one

Walter Hope recorded his first-ever hole-in-one on April 6 at Chicopee Woods.
Hope made the shot with a 9-iron on hole No. 4 of the School course while competing in the Simmie Game.

DPG: The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Wednesday and Friday last week at Chicopee Woods.

Jerry Shell won Wednesday’s match, and Denis Jordan came in second.

On Friday, Jim Simpson placed first, and Charley Kilby and James Roberts tied for second.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played an individual flighted strokes game last Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

In the first flight, Gene Weschler came in first, and Dick Bachman and Bob Pyne tied for second place.

A.J. Kiker won the second flight, Carlyle Cox was second, and Ed Pledger placed third.
Dave Long championed the third flight, while Jim Carroll and Johnny Little tied for second place.

Closest to the pin winners were Bob Henderson (No. 3 and No. 17), Pyne (No. 5) and Clay Bartlett (No. 12).

DOGFIGHT: Roger Stapp, Mark Black, Len Kaper and Geoff Archibald teamed up to win last week’s Wednesday dogfight event at Chicopee Woods.

Greg Lee, Don Schrum, Henry Komoto and Keith Fitzgerald tied the team of Kyle Rylee, Todd Austin, Tom Frier and Mike Simmons for second place.

Individually, Eric Awtry was first with a 65 and Frier was second with a 67.
