Double-wide damaged in early morning fire

POSTED: April 9, 2014 2:49 p.m.

A mobile home was damaged by a fire early Wednesday but the residents escaped safely.

Hall County fire crews responded to the blaze around 2:09 a.m. at 1605 Old Athens Highway, Fire Marshal Scott Cagle reported. They found a double-wide mobile home that was about 25 percent involved in fire, with heavy damage to a bedroom and smoke damage throughout the structure.

An occupant, awake watching TV, saw flames in the bedroom window from the porch, Cagle said. There were no smoke detectors in the home, he added. Two people were assisted by the Red Cross.

The loss of home and contents was valued at about $40,000, with $20,000 in damage, he said.

Firefighters haven’t identified a cause yet; however the fire appears to be accidental, Cagle said.
