On-the-job training coming to Cornelia

POSTED: April 9, 2014 12:37 a.m.

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission-Workforce Development is bringing on-the-job training to Cornelia next week.

Workforce Development will hold an overview session at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgia Department of Labor, 215 Hodges St., Suite 205, in Cornelia. The session will acquaint potential customers with the services and requirements of the On-the-Job Training Program through the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.

Workforce Development helps eligible unemployed adults obtain full-time, permanent jobs. On-the-job training helps those who didn’t have skills before beginning a job learn new skills while working.

Assistance may include dependent care and transportation cost while transitioning into a new position.

Applicants should be unemployed or laid off through no fault of their own from their previous employment. On-the-job training through Georgia Mountains Workforce Development is available to adults 18 and older who are residents of Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union or White counties or are or were employed by a business in those counties.
