Lynn Nix of Oakwood made a quilt out of T-shirts given to her husband Ray each time he donated blood at LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Gainesville. When Lynn got the 20 shirts she needed, she started the work and, eight months later, had the quilt ready for donors and employees at LifeSouth to see.

The Sautee Nacoochee Community Association has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to support improvements to the historic gymnasium. The grant, which requires a 50/50 match in funds and in-kind services from the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association, will be used for the purchase of portable, modular seating risers to increase audience capacity in the gym.The Appalachian Regional Commission is a federal-state partnership established by Congress to support economic development in the Appalachian region.

The most recent show by The Art League is now on display at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. The Art League had 50 works submitted by 22 artists, and Vanessa Grubbs, gallery director at Brenau University, served as the show's juror. The following artists received awards:

  • First place: "Antique Silver," oil painting by Sharon Farkas
  • Second place: "Marshes at Bay Point," oil painting by Ruth Money
  • Third place: "Peggy's Cove," photo by Jack Kirves
  • Honorable mentions: "Queen of Mardi Gras," drawing in pen/markers by Al Harriett; "Freudian Slip," clay piece by Al Harriett; "Beginning of Life," mixed media by Heidi Bowman; "Roaring Water," oil painting by Ann Alexander; "Lucy's Cove," oil painting by Cheryl Hardin.
