The Local Agenda: Gainesville City Council to hear budget presentations

POSTED: March 25, 2014 12:09 a.m.

Gainesville City Council will hear several budget presentations when it meets Thursday for a work session.

Budget requests have been trickling in all month from city departments, including the tourism and communications office, public works and Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center.

Budget requests Thursday will be made by the Community Development Department, police and fire departments, human resources and administrative services.

The council also will hear a number of project resolution requests, including two regarding grants and awards from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

City Council will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday in Room 301 of the administration building, 300 Henry Ward Way.

Hall commissioners to vote on zoning issues

The Hall County Board of Commissioners will vote on several planning and zoning items when it meets Thursday.

The North Georgia Christian School has proposed rezoning about 97 acres on the north side of Poplar Springs Road to allow for the development of a K-12 school. The school, currently housed in the Chestnut Mountain Church, is hoping to grow enrollment in the next several years so it can build on the land it is under contract to purchase.

School officials have said they hope to close on the contract by mid-April.

The planning commission has recommended approval of the rezoning.

The board will also consider rezoning two residential properties in South Hall to allow for small commercial development.

Earlier this month, the planning commission recommended approval of the zoning application of Mack and Stacie Sloan for their property on Spout Springs Road, which totals about 1.7 acres.

The Hall County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
