Teenager found dead in Forsyth home

POSTED: October 12, 2008 5:01 a.m.

It could be months before authorities know what caused the death of a 19-year-old Dawson County woman whose body was found Saturday in a northeastern Forsyth County home.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Lt. Col. Gene Moss said investigators have turned up no evidence of foul play in the death of Cassondra "Cassie" Ellen Key. Still, it could take three months for toxicology results to return from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff's report, a resident of the Lakeside Manor Estates home where Key was found called authorities after noticing the teen's lips were blue and her skin was cold.

Several hours earlier, the resident had encountered Key and her pit bull at the Ingles grocery store on Buford Highway where he works. According to the report, the employee told deputies Key appeared intoxicated and he "did not want the female to drive away in the state she was in, so he offered to take her to his house and let her sleep."

Key lived on Duck Thurmond Road in Dawson County. Attempts Wednesday to reach members of Key's family were not successful.
