Gainesville girls take 2nd at Chattahoochee Invitational

The Gainesville High girls golf team took second in the Chattahoochee Invitational on Saturday in Gainesville.

Ashleigh Bishop carded the second lowest score of the day at 76 and anchored the Lady Red Elephants to a total of 241. Morgan Reece fired an 82 for Gainesville, while Meg Callahan was one shot back.

Cambridge won with a team total of 238, led by Rachel Dai’s 73. North Oconee took third with a 253.

Gainesville looks to win its third meet of the season at Chateau Elan next Saturday.

The Jefferson boys took first place and the Lady Dragons placed second at the Jefferson Duals on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson.

Jefferson’s boys finished with 190.5 points, Berkmar placed second (154,5) and Elbert County third (103). Berkmar (174) won the girls meet, followed by Jefferson (138) and North Springs (67).

For the Jefferson boys, Ethan Hix won the shot put, while Mason Hamrick took first in the pole vault. The Dragons placed first in the sprint medley relay with the team of Satchel Turpin, Rodney Carr, T.J. Skelton and Tradd Porter.

The Dragons won the distance medley relay behind the effort of Josh Reid, Gage Lawson, Taylor Hitt and Max Higgins.

Higgins, Alex Parrish, Hitt and Jacob Adams took first in the 1,600-meter relay for the Dragons, while Parrish, Jacobs, Reid and Higgins won the 3,200 meter relay.

For the Lady Dragons, Abby Carson won the pole vault. Reese Bowles, Kelsey Reschley, Libby D’Antonio and Morgan Mitchell placed first in the 1,600 relay.

Jefferson hosts North Hall and Apalachee on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium.

JACKSON COUNTY 10, BROOKSTONE 6: Five different Panthers batters had an extra-base hit on Saturday in Columbus. Ben Brissey had a two-run home run for Jackson County (9-2), while Patrick Overstreet finished with a double and two RBIs.

Colby Cole and Jacob Banks each had a double and two hits for the Panthers. Andrew Fogarty and Joel Ellis each had a double for Jackson County, which next faces Oconee County on March 24.

EAST HALL 6, FANNIN COUNTY 0 (Friday): Caleb Holtzclaw pitched the Vikings to victory, throwing six innings and allowing just one hit on Friday in Blue Ridge. Hunter Buffington had a home run and two RBIs for the Vikings. On Monday, East Hall hosts Fannin County at 5:30 p.m. in Gainesville.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN BOYS 4, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 1 (Friday): J.B. Britte scored the Lions’ goal on Friday in Dacula. On Tuesday, Lakeview hosts Providence Christian at 7 p.m. in Gainesville.

JOHNSON BOYS 8, WALNUT GROVE 0 (Friday): Luis Deltoro had three goals and an assist for the Knights on Friday in Loganville. Fabian Abarca had a pair of goals and an assist for Johnson (8-0, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA), and Barut Perez had a pair of goals. The Knights allowed just one shot on goal. On Tuesday, Johnson visits Lanier in Sugar Hill.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 1, EASTSIDE 0 (Friday): Ashley Grant scored the game’s lone goal in the 27th minute on Friday in Covington. Misandy Chavez secured the shutout with two saves in goal for the Lady War Eagles (7-2, 4-0 Region 8-AAAA).

JEFFERSON BOYS 5, WASHINGTON-WILKES 0: Gage Thompson, Jordan Tyler and Jackson Howard all won in singles play for the Dragons on Saturday in Washington.

JEFFERSON GIRLS 4, WASHINGTON-WILKES 1: The Lady Dragons’ lone loss came at No. 3 singles on Saturday in Washington.
