Families get weekend history lesson

POSTED: March 9, 2014 11:44 p.m.

The monthly Family Day on Sunday at the Northeast Georgia History Center in Gainesville recognized the 200-year anniversary of the end of the War of 1812. Events included re-enactors demonstrating and discussing soldiers’ lives, an exhibit in the Rotating Gallery, hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. Visitors could make soldiers’ shako headgear, have silhouettes drawn and explore the events that led to Francis Scott Key’s writing the lyrics of “The Star-Spangled Banner”
