Fallen power line blamed in North Hall outage

POSTED: March 9, 2014 5:37 p.m.

A fallen power line is to blame for a Saturday evening outage in Hall County that took hours to restore.

“A transmission line fell and hit other lines that were below it causing the outages to some of our customers,” Georgia Power spokesman John Kraft said.

Outages were first reported in the North Hall area around 7 p.m.

While around 65 Georgia Power customers were affected, as many as 1,600 Jackson EMC customers were impacted at first.

“I don’t know how many of those they were able to reroute and get back on, but that was the initial amount affected,” Jackson EMC spokeswoman Bonnie Jones said. Power was reported restored around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Kraft said he did not know why the line fell.

“It could be just that the line just failed or something broke up on the structure, or something like that,” he said. “I’m not sure they’ve finished that investigation yet.”
