High school football: Dragons crack top 10 in AA

Northside drops, little else changes in AP poll

POSTED: October 11, 2008 5:00 a.m.

ATLANTA — Last week's battle between the top two teams in Class AAAAA sees No. 5 Northside-Warner Robins fall three positions in this week's Associated Press high school football poll after a convincing 24-7 loss to No. 1 Lowndes.

No. 2 Camden County — after sharing the spot with Northside last week — takes sole possesion of No. 2, as Newnan and Walton each advance one and two places, respectively. East Paulding takes Etowah's place at No. 10 after beating them 17-14.

As the top three remain unchanged in Class AA, No. 10 Westminster holds on after losing 24-21 to rival Lovett resulting in a six-slot slide. McIntosh County Academy and Appling County share the No. 6 position this week after advancing two and three places, respectively. No. 9 Jefferson enters the rankings with Laney's exit.

Class AAAA has No. 3 Sandy Creek and No. 7 Mays each advancing two slots while No. 5 Thomas County Central, No. 6 Chamblee and No. 9 Rome all move up one. No. 10 Dalton barely hangs on after a six-position fall — losing big to unranked Sequoyah. No. 4 Marist takes a step down but No. 1 Westside-Macon and No. 2 Statesboro continue another week.

The only changes in the Class A rankings are No. 9 Turner County and No. 10 Johnson County entering as Twiggs County and Bremen move out.

Class AAA rankings remain unchanged, with Gainesville holding at No. 6.
