High school scoreboard: Feb. 18

Kirk Schneider tallied 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and five rebounds for Lakeview Academy as they defeated Hebron Christian 68-56 in the Region 8-A third-place game on Tuesday in Commerce.

Patrick Avery added 14 points and five rebounds for Lakeview Academy (15-13), and J.B. Britte notched 10 points. Paul Avery recorded six points and 12 rebounds, and Daniel Fadool had five assists.

The Lions went 15 of 17 from the free throw line in the game.

Lakeview Academy awaits the Class A power rankings on Thursday to determine a state playoff berth.

GEORGE WALTON GIRLS 44, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 37: Schyler Miller paced the Lady Lions with 11 points in the Region 8-A championship on Tuesday in Commerce.

Danielle Morgan and Marlee Rochester each scored six for Lakeview Academy, which finished second in the tournament with a record of 20-8.

The Lions await the results of the Class A Power Rankings to determine playoff seedings.


NORTH HALL BOYS 10, WHITE COUNTY 0: Junior Avalos started the Trojans’ season with a bang, scoring five goals and notching one assist to lead the team in the first round of the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup on Tuesday at Chestatee High.

Hunter Carter scored a pair of goals for North Hall (1-0), and Jairo Barrientos, Enrique Castrejon and Oscar Llanas all found the net as well.

Castrejon, Jake Stephens and Jake Carter all finished the game with two assists each, and Barrientos had an assist as well for the Trojans.

North Hall plays in the second round of the tournament on Thursday at Chestatee.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 5, NORTH HALL 1: Carmen Wagner’s hat trick paced the Lady Lions in the first round of the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup on Tuesday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.

The two teams were tied 1-1 at halftime before Lakeview Academy pushed ahead. Carly Kenny and Alison Schultz also scored goals for the Lady Lions.

North Hall scored on a penalty kick by Tristan Bailey.

Lakeview Academy plays in the tournament finals at 8 p.m. Friday in Gainesville.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 6, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 0: Andrew Bell notched three goals and an assist for the Lions in the first round of the Northeast Georgia Mountain Cup on Tuesday at Chestatee High.

Nathan Zottnick scored a pair of goals for Lakeview Academy, and Cameron Kayne added a goal. Dalton Snyder earned the shutout win with three saves.

The Lions return to action in the second round of the tournament on Thursday at Chestatee.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 4, DAWSON COUNTY 0: Ricardo Gomez tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Red Elephants in the season opener on Tuesday.

Allis Nunez, Christian Ochoa and Jose Cruz Garcia also scored for Gainesville (1-0), and Roberto Nunez and Diego Poreas added assists.

Gage Turner and Jiovani Ortiz combined for the shutout in goal.

The Red Elephants visit Lumpkin County on Friday in Dahlonega.

JOHNSON BOYS 5, ARCHER 2: Fabian Abarca scored two goals for the Knights on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Israel Avila added a goal and two assists, Luis Del Toro had a goal and an assist. Barut Perez scored for Johnson, and Isaac Henry and Alberto Del Toro also had assists.

The Knights (2-0) play host to Habersham Central on Feb. 25 in Oakwood.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 3, JACKSON COUNTY 2: Sebastian Fernandez’s two goals paced the Falcons in their home opener on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

Nick Biasi also scored for Flowery Branch, and Lenny Quezado added an assist. Cade Minton earned the win in goal.

The Falcons play host to Grayson on Friday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 4, LANIER 1: Reagan Williams and Roan Thompson earned singles wins for the Red Elephants on Tuesday.

Charles Calkins and Nick Dillard won at No. 1 doubles, and Trevor Munn and Lee Hughes won at No. 2 doubles for Gainesville.

Gainesville visits North Oconee on Feb. 25 in Bogart.
