UNG to extend calendar to make up for lost days

POSTED: February 15, 2014 6:36 p.m.

University of North Georgia President Bonita. C. Jacobs has announced the school will extend the spring semester calendar by four days to May 1 to make up for days lost to winter weather.

UNG has canceled six days of classes this year because of winter storms in late January and last week.

The school will now extend the calendar by scheduling class time from April 25 to May 1. Finals will begin May 2. Exams originally set for April 28-May 1 will move to the week of May 5-8.

“We are fortunate to have these days available between the end of finals and commencement, as not all universities do and some may be using days from spring break,” Jacobs said in announcing the move. “These are unusual circumstances, and this plan will help ensure our students are able to complete their coursework successfully and in a timely manner.”

Campuses reopened Friday after losing three days to the latest winter storm.

“The weather this year has presented significant challenges for academic instruction,” said Dr. Patricia L. Donat, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

Details are available at www.ung.edu/calendars.

Numerous athletic events have been rescheduled, including UNG Spirit Night and the Make-A-Wish reveal party originally planned for Feb. 13, now set for Feb. 26. For details on athletic events, visit www.ungathletics.com.
