GHSA shortens wrestling state championships to 2 days

Thursday action at Gwinnett Arena cancelled due to winter storm threat

POSTED: February 10, 2014 3:00 p.m.

The threat of a winter storm has prompted organizers of the GHSA traditional wrestling state championships to shorten the event to two days, the association announced Monday.

Originally slated to take place Thursday through Saturday, the tournament is now scheduled to be a two-day event beginning Friday morning with weigh-ins for Classes AAAA-AAAAAA from 6-8:30 a.m. Finals for all classifications are scheduled to start Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

A winter storm warning takes effect at 7 tonight and the governor has declared a state of emergency for counties throughout Northeast Georgia.

Rain tonight will change over to snow by sunrise and occasionally mix with sleet during the day Tuesday, according to the warning from the National Weather Service.

Snow accumulation of between 1 and 3 inches during the day Tuesday and an additional 2 to 4 inches Tuesday night through Thursday morning is possible. A winter storm watch is in effect through Thursday morning.
