Poultry expo showcases industry innovations

New technologies, along with innovative equipment and services for the poultry, feed and meat industries — ranging across 400,000 square feet of exhibit space — greeted visitors to the 2014 International Production and Processing Expo here this week.

The IPPE, the largest trade show for the three industries, welcomed attendees to the Georgia World Congress Center for the 66th annual gathering.

Three associations — the International Poultry Expo sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, the International Feed Expo sponsored by the American Feed Industry Association and the International Meat Expo sponsored by the American Meat Institute — joined to present their yearly shows under the IPPE banner.

John Starkey, USPOULTRY president, said, “The second year of integration of the International Poultry Expo, International Feed Expo and International Meat Expo continues to be very well received by attendees and exhibitors alike.

“There is such a broad and diverse swath of equipment and services available on the trade show floor, and the combined efforts of the three organizations (have) led to a very well attended slate of educational programs,” he said. “What we are seeing gives proof to the saying, ‘The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.’”

Sponsors anticipate more than 20,000 people will have viewed the expo during its three-day run.

More than 1,100 exhibitors displayed the latest innovations in the production and processing of poultry, feed and meat products.

These included exhibits showcasing feed milling, hatchery, layers, live production, processing, further processing, rendering and transportation.

Additional exhibits provided information on products, such as vaccines, water purification and protective clothing, to aid business operations.

Starkey noted earlier the IPPE “is the one location where industry leaders, purchasing managers and decision makers can view emerging technology and new innovations for all segments of the poultry, meat and feed industries.”

The three-association expo also provided educational programs to update industry members on issues affecting them.

The programs covered a variety of topics, including a scientific forum, an animal agricultural sustainability summit, pet food conference, sanitary equipment design and egg industry issues.

The National Chicken Council, United Egg Producers, National Poultry & Feed Distributors Association and the National Renderers Association held meetings during the expo.

The International Production & Processing Expo will return to Atlanta in January 2015.
