POSTED: January 16, 2014 11:57 p.m.

Local government managers in Northeast Georgia can enroll in a management development program series that starts Tuesday in Gainesville.

The first ever open enrollment regional program offered by the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Insitute of Government aims to strengthen leadership skills and is tailored to municipal and county government supervisors.

“Participants are provided with hands-on training that helps to broaden their awareness of core management skills, strengthen their leadership techniques, and refine their interpersonal skills,” said institute Senior Public Service Associate Walt McBride.

The 20-day program is offered in two-day modules over an eight-month period and is taught by faculty from the Insitute of Government.

The series in Gainesville is one of 12 regional courses being offered across the state.

“We are committed to making our training opportunities accessible and affordable, and by providing convenient, regional courses, the institute is helping local governments reduce travel time and expenses,” said institute Director Laura Meadows.

Register online at or by contacting McBride at or 706-255-0658 or Senior Event Coordinator Christine Jepsen at or 705-542-3905.

The Carl Vinson Institute of Government is a public service and outreach unit of the University of Georgia that conducts training, technical assistance and applied research to help state and local governments operate efficiently and effectively and provide improved service to the public.
