POSTED: January 16, 2014 11:56 p.m.

A Gainesville resident was arrested in Hall County on drug trafficking charges after $5,600 in methamphetamine was confiscated, law enforcement authorities said Thursday.

Dennis Ray Cheek, 52, delivered about one ounce of methamphetamine to a predetermined location on South Enota Drive, according to Lt. Scott Ware of the Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad.

Gainesville police and MANS agents arrested Cheek without incident.

A subsequent search of a residence in the 4800 block of Gillsville Highway uncovered one ounce of methamphetamine and a .22-caliber handgun.

Cheek is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At his first appearance Tuesday in Hall County Magistrate Court, Cheek requested a committal hearing, set for Jan. 30, and representation from the public defender’s office.

He is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.
