Authorities: Man pulled over claimed to be an officer

POSTED: January 10, 2014 11:19 p.m.

A Bibb County man faces charges after telling a Hall County deputy at a traffic stop he was a police officer.

On Sunday, the deputy stopped a car driven by Douglas William McDonald in Flowery Branch.

McDonald, 54, told the deputy he was an officer with the Macon City Police Department, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. McDonald was issued traffic citations for tinted windshield, tinted tag cover and red lights without permit and was released at the scene pending further investigation.

Hall County investigators determined the next day that McDonald was not a POST-certified law enforcement officer. He was charged with impersonating a public officer.

McDonald surrendered at the Hall County Jail on Thursday, where he posted a $5,000 bond.
