POSTED: October 5, 2008 5:01 a.m.

Hall County recorded its 37th rabies case this year after a rabid raccoon came into contact with a dog Sunday in northwestern Hall.

The two animals came into contact in the Springdale Forrest Circle area, and the raccoon later was confirmed to have rabies, according to the Gainesville-Hall County Animal Control Department.

The raccoon was tested for rabies by the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur, which advised Hall County of the results on Tuesday.

Officials will be going door-to-door in the area where the rabid raccoon was located. If you live in this area or you see an animal acting abnormally in the Springdale Forrest Circle area, contact animal control at 770-531-6830, or call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812 after hours.
