Badge and Bar: Man accused of 2 thefts on same day in 2012

A man who pleaded not guilty in a Feb. 23, 2012, Gainesville armed robbery has been accused of taking cash by force in another case from the same day.

Patrick Leondra Caldwell, 47, is tentatively scheduled for Superior Court Judge Jason Deal’s January calendar.

The Florida man is accused of showing a handgun and taking $3,500 from Carlos Andrew Cruz-Gomez on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. Caldwell was indicted on the charges in April.

Gainesville police spokesman Cpl. Joe Britte said investigators arrested Caldwell on Saturday in connection with an armed robbery that took place the same February 2012 day on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

Caldwell also faces the charge of possession of a gun by a convicted felon.

He requested a committal hearing, scheduled for Jan. 27, at his first appearance in Hall Magistrate Court.

He is being held at the Hall County Jail with no bond.

Gainesville man accused in alleged rape, false imprisonment

A Gainesville man was arrested on charges of rape and false imprisonment on Saturday.

Jose Flores-Canela, 34, allegedly held the victim against her will, threatening her with a handgun, according to the affidavit.

He allegedly refused to let the victim leave a Roper Lane residence between the dates of Dec. 31 and Jan. 3.

Flores-Canela is being held at the Hall County Jail without bond.

A note in court records said he was suspected to be a member of the gang SUR-13.

He is scheduled to appear in Hall Magistrate Court for a committal hearing on Jan. 24.
