Sheriff’s Office announces new precinct in South Hall

POSTED: January 6, 2014 11:44 p.m.

Hall County sheriff’s officials announced Monday the office has purchased a building for a planned South Hall precinct.

The approximately 10,000-square-foot brick building is at 7345 Cody Drive in Braselton and sits on more than 2 acres of land, according to a news release.

The facility, which previously served as a children’s day care, is near the intersections of Friendship, Spout Springs and Thompson Mill roads. It was purchased for $700,000 using special purpose local option sales tax VI funds. Remodeling of the building will be paid for with revenues from impact fees and should be completed by July 2014.

The facility would be the first full-service sheriff’s office complex south of Gainesville. The office announced late last year a new precinct in North Hall at 122 Dean St. in Clermont.

“This provides a strategically placed law enforcement presence,” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said of the South Hall precinct, “allowing officers to make a timely response in crucial, emergency situations.”

The South Hall office will serve as the operational center for more than 40 employees, including supervisors, patrol officers, investigators, public information officers and administrative staff.

By staffing the precincts and integrating technology, Couch has said the sheriff’s office can make residents’ lives easier, allowing them to do business, such as filing reports, without driving all the way to Gainesville.

The South Hall precinct, which would be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, will provide access to many of the services that are available at the main office in Gainesville, including filing incident and accident reports and obtaining copies of reports. It will not include registering sex offenders and fingerprinting services for firearms permits.
