Taylor was aspiring lawyer, designer

POSTED: December 23, 2013 11:49 p.m.

The victim of a Saturday shooting had just registered his clothing company with the Secretary of State and was poised to enter a career in entertainment and fashion, a friend said.

Rashawn Miguel Taylor, 24, was found shot in the 1800 block of Tulip Drive off Floyd Road at about 11 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“This is a big loss,” Haynes Kaufman said. Taylor had been a caregiver for Kaufman’s autistic son for the past four years. “This is just a big loss for our family.”

There were no other reported injuries in the Saturday incident, and there has been no information released about a possible suspect or motive. Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a maroon 2003 Nissan Altima with the license plate number PBJ 3588.

Kaufman did not know of any funeral arrangements but said she wants to celebrate the life of the Gainesville High graduate.

“He had last week made an LLC for a new clothing line and gotten it approved through the Secretary of State,” Kaufman said. “It was called AmeraKana.

“He was looking into a clothing, music — kind of a lifestyle line,” she continued. “I think eventually he was really interested in becoming an entertainment lawyer, because his ultimate goal was to go to law school.”

Kaufman said she told her son Taylor had died, but he does not grasp what that means.

“Shawn was a very calming influence on a child who is somewhat nonverbal and quite aggressive,” she said. “Shawn was punctual. He was always good to call and text about his whereabouts.

“He was a good addition to our family and we’re really going to miss him.”

Investigators ask anyone with information about the vehicle or the case in general to call the Hall County Criminal Investigations Division tip line at 770-503-3232.
