$10,000 reward offered in Cumming pawnshop theft

POSTED: December 12, 2013 11:50 p.m.

Information about the recent theft of firearms from a Cumming pawnshop could lead to a $10,000 reward.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation have each offered $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the burglary at Forsyth County Pawn at 211 Atlanta Road.

The burglary reportedly occurred in the early morning hours Dec. 2.

A report of the incident states employees of the business arrived that day to find someone had broken in through the front door.

The only items taken were firearms, according to the report from Cumming police.

“ATF takes this crime very seriously,” said

Special Agent in Charge Christopher Shaefer. “There are 27 firearms on the street, with the strong potential of being sold to or used by other criminals to commit violent crimes.”

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the ATF Gun Hotline at 800-283-4867 or Cumming police at 770-781-2000. Callers may remain anonymous.

The reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative in which the foundation matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers.

ATF works with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
