Class Notes: Hall representatives to share practices at Georgia School Boards Association

POSTED: December 3, 2013 11:54 p.m.

Hall County School District representatives will meet Thursday with the Georgia School Boards Association to share some of their “innovative promising practices,” including many of the programs of choice in the county system.

Superintendent Will Schofield will be joined by various school principals to talk about some of the programs within county schools including World Language Academy, Chestnut Mountain Creative School of Inquiry and North Hall Middle School’s Earhart-Edison Academy.

Gainesville City Schools also will present in front of the association Friday, partnering with other school systems including Marietta City and White County to talk about the benefits of becoming a charter school system.

Both presentations are part of the association’s annual conference, held Thursday and Friday in Atlanta.

University of North Georgia to provide more foreign language program scholarships

A $15,000 grant from the Georgia Foundation for Public Education means more scholarship funding for high school students in the University of North Georgia’s language immersion program.

The summer program has been offered to high school students at the university since 2010. Languages offered include Arabic, Chinese, Russian, German, French and Korean. Students can earn high school credit through this 21-day program.

The grant enables the school to offer up to 30 need-based scholarships of $500 each. Previously, only five $500 scholarships were offered. The cost of attending the program is $1,895.

Applications are currently being accepted for the summer 2014 session. Students can apply online at www.ung.edu/global-engagement/fsla.
