Three speakers will help close out the college careers of University of North Georgia seniors graduating this December.

The four commencement ceremonies will take place over a two-day period, Dec. 14-15.

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, will speak at the 2 p.m. Dec. 15 ceremony at the university’s Dahlonega campus. This ceremony is for graduates of the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Science & Mathematics.

James McCoy, president and CEO of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, will speak at the 3 p.m. Dec. 14 commencement in Gainesville and the 5 p.m. Dec. 15 commencement in Dahlonega.

And former state Sen. Jane Hemmer of Hall County will speak at the 3 p.m. Dec. 14 Gainesville commencement.

According to Michael Marshall with the university, around 750 applications for graduation have been received.

Accreditation scheduled for Hall schools

As accreditation procedures have changed, the Hall County School District will undergo accreditation review in February 2015.

The schools are accredited via the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

“When we did it four years ago, it was really the system (that would) pull it together,” said Eloise Barron, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. “Then (SACS would) tell us three or four schools they’d like to visit.

“Now, every school will have to go in and fill out data, put that into a report, feed that to the system level, and then we do a report,” she added.

The system can schedule an accreditation review any time before May 2015. Barron said going in February 2015 would allow schools more time to prepare their reports.
