Christmas shoppers may fill their bags with items to stuff into stockings at the Helen’s sixth annual Christkindlmarkt on Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 and Dec. 7-8.

In the German tradition, the center of town is filled with booths offering specialty gift items, decorations, assorted savory food, drinks and candied treats.

Santa and Mrs. Claus Santa will make an appearance during Christkindlmarkt as they sleigh into town via horse-drawn carriage on Nov. 29. The pair will be part of the annual Lighting of the Village at 6 p.m. Friday in downtown Helen.

The following weekend will be the Helen Christmas Parade and Kinderfest.

The parade will wind its way through town at 2 p.m. Dec. 7. Meanwhile, Kinderfest is a German tradition for children offering games and face painting. It will be Dec. 7, 14 and 21.

Others events in North Georgia are:

* The Festival of Trees from Nov. 27 to Dec. 14 at Unicoi State Park and Lodge.
