The Local Agenda: Hall to close offices for Thanksgiving

POSTED: November 25, 2013 10:05 p.m.

Hall County’s administrative offices, courts and community centers will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. County community centers will remain closed through the weekend.

Some public safety and public works staff will work as usual during the holiday. The landfill will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but the compactor sites will stay open.

The city of Gainesville will also close Thursday and Friday for the holiday.

Garbage will only be picked up in the city once next week on Monday and Tuesday. Recycling routes for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday remain the same.

Gainesville work session canceled

The Gainesville City Council has canceled its work session scheduled for Wednesday. The next scheduled council meeting is Dec. 3. A work session is expected on Dec. 12 and the final council meeting of the year is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Hall to announce Special Olympics deal

Hall County will be the new home of the Special Olympics Georgia Fall Games, officials are expected to announce next week.

The county and members of the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors’ Bureau have scheduled a news conference 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at North Hall Park, at 4175 Nopone Road, Gainesville, to make it official.

The decision means a boost in the area’s economy as more than 1,400 athletes and coaches are expected to travel across the state to attend next year’s games, the news release states.

The fall games are scheduled for Oct. 10-12, 2014. The county will also host Special Olympics Georgia’s State Horse Show at Chicopee Agriculture Center that weekend. Both events are part of a three-year contract, from 2014 to 2016.
