Chestatee girls battle past Collins Hill 44-42

Chestatee’s girls basketball team earned a 44-42 win over Class AAAAAA power Collins Hill on Saturday. The Lady War Eagles built a 14-9 lead after the first quarter before holding a narrow two-point lead, 21-19, at halftime.

The teams were tied at 33-33 at the end of the third quarter, before Chestatee pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Kayla Watson finished with 13 points, while Bridgette Kelly finished with 12 and Savanna Long with 11. Deanna Bradberry contributed with four points.

Chestatee plays either Jefferson or Oconee County on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

W.D. MOHAMMED 73, LAKEVIEW BOYS 62: The Lions trailed at the end of every quarter and saw their record fall to 1-1 overall with the loss. J.B. Britte led Lakeview with a team-high 21 points. Paul Avery finished with 12 points, Tre Gober had 10 points and Josh Randolph finished with nine. Muhammad Hamiton of W.D. Mohammed led all scores with 26 points.

Lakeview Academy’s varsity basketball teams return to action Dec. 2 at North Hall.

LAKEVIEW GIRLS 68, W.D. MOHAMMED 20: Kaylee McCelendon scored 16 points and Schyler Miller finished with 13 points as Lakeview’s girls basketball team cruised to a win in Gainesville. The Lady Lions visit North Hall on Dec. 2.

WEST HALL BOYS 53, JACKSON COUNTY 48: Mason Gaines tallied 18 points to lead the Spartans on Friday in Jefferson.

Hunter Atkinson added 16 points for West Hall, which plays Monroe Area in the White County Tip-Off Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Cleveland.

WHITFIELD ACADEMY 74, JOHNSON BOYS 70: Carter Cagle recorded 20 points to lead Johnson in a narrow loss on Saturday in Mableton. Ty Cockfield scored 15 points, Justin Jones had 14 and James Hodges contributed with 12 points.

Johnson returns to action Monday night against South Cobb. Tip-off is set for 7:30 at Johnson High School.

The Knights will also face North Cobb on Tuesday night. The games are part of the Johnson Tipoff Classic.

Wrestling
NORTH HALL FINISHES SECOND: North Hall’s wrestling team finished second in the Winder-Barrow Duals on Saturday. The Trojans recorded four victories to start the day before losing to Pope in the championship match.

North Hall opened its day with a 37-30 victory over Alcovy, before recording three more victories leading to the final match against Pope.

West Hall finished fourth in the meet. North Hall faces White County Dec. 3 in Cleveland.
