Class Notes: UNG on list of ‘best’ schools for veterans

POSTED: November 13, 2013 1:02 a.m.

Military Times magazine has placed the University of North Georgia on its 2014 “Best for Vets” list, ranking the school No. 21 out of more than 600 across the country.

The university is the Military College of Georgia, and one of only six senior military colleges in the country.

“We are honored to count numerous service members, veterans and their family members among our students, faculty and staff,” said President Bonita Jacobs in a news release. “(We) depend upon their expertise and leadership as we strive to fulfill our mission of educating leaders.”

The list was composed using 2012 enrollment data. Out of the 15,160 enrolled at the university in 2012, 698 were military.

“Many factors other than those listed in the chart were considered when developing the rankings,” according to Military Times’ website.

Other Georgia schools on the list are Kennesaw State University, Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia Military College.

Hall Board of Education to change monthly meeting day

Rather than meeting the fourth Monday of November, the Hall Board of Education will instead hold its monthly meeting Nov. 18.

The change in date is due to the fourth Monday falling the same week as the Thanksgiving holiday.

The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. at the school district’s central office on Green Street.

Gainesville City Schools will also have its regularly scheduled meeting that day. Board members will meet 6 p.m. at the 508 Oak St. office.
