For the first time in months, Lanier dips below full pool

Lake was full all summer after drought in earlier years plagued the reservoir

POSTED: November 7, 2013 11:07 a.m.

Lake Lanier is below full pool for the first time in seven months.

The lake has stood below 1,071 feet above sea level on and off this month, consistently since Tuesday, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.

The lake now stands at 1,070.87 feet.

The lake topped 1,070 feet — the winter full pool — on April 3 and since has stayed above that level. Lanier’s level had fallen to 1,056.33 feet on Dec. 18-19 before steady rains this year raised it as high as 1,073.67 feet on May 7.

The summer full pool of 1,071 feet is in effect May 1-Nov. 30 and winter full pool, Dec. 1-April 30.
